Policies & Procedures

All students are required to abide by standard School and Dance Studio etiquette.

Your signature on our registration form/your submission of the online form signifies your adherence and agreement to all these polices. Thank-you.

Dress Code Requirements

Reflections School of Dance maintains a dress code to encourage concentration and a sense of inclusiveness as variations in attire can be distracting and contribute to feelings of inequality. Uniformity in dance wear allows the teachers to assess how well the students are implementing the technique being taught, problems with alignment, and other important aspects of dance training.

All students and visitors are kindly asked to remove street shoes upon entering the dance floor. We do recognize it is an inconvenience, but it is necessary to keep the floors clean for the dancers. Please keep the entry room tidy by hanging coats as well as putting away belongings in cubby holes.

  • Students should carry their dance wear, shoes, and other belongings in a dance bag. Please print your child’s name on the bag as well as on all of its contents.
  • Dance wear is to be kept in good repair and laundered on a regular basis.
  • Watches, jewelry, and safety pins should not be worn to class.
  • Dance shoes should never be worn outside.
  • Female students should wear their hair tightly secured and styled away from the face; a neat bun is preferred.
  • Students are expected to observe good personal hygiene habits. Deodorant is required for students age 10 and older.
  • Reflections School of Dance T-shirts are available for purchase and are also appropriate for class.

T-shirt, Black Shorts or Jazz Pants, and appropriate class footwear.

A limited selection of tights and leotards are available for purchase at the studio. Many department stores also have children’s leotards, tights, and jazz pants. Children’s Ballet, Tap and Jazz shoes can also be purchased at Payless shoes. Please Note: Wal-Mart, Target and Kmart sell a bedroom slipper that looks a little like a ballet slipper – but it is not appropriate for class. Wearing this kind of slipper in dance class may increase the risk of injury.

A limited selection of dance apparel is available for purchase in the studio lobby.

Drop Off - Encouraged

Here at Reflections we encourage you to drop off your student. We encourage this policy for the following reasons:

  1. We love our students and we strive to help them experience the best learning environment possible. With only the teacher and the other students in class students are able to focus and progress much faster without the distraction of faces in the windows and visitors in the classroom. We are thrilled on observation days when the parents marvel at the improvement they are witnessing.
  2. We love our neighboring businesses and we are considerate of them by doing our best to control congestion of cars.

For parents not living close bywho are not going home between the beginning and end of their child's classes, you are welcoe to wait in our comfortable lobby area or we would suggest they visit one of the fine establishments near us.

In our studio we do have very large viewing windows. These windows are available for you to take a quick peak to check in with your student and ensure that your child is safely engaging in class. However we discourage parents from congregating or loitering near the window as it is distracting to the class, students, and teacher. If this is creates a distraction to the class the instructors do have permission to pull the window shades down. Thank you for your understanding.

Please be prompt with drop off and pick up. Teachers cannot be responsible for unsupervised children being dropped off early or picked up late. In an emergency of being caught in traffic, etc. call the office if possible so that we can make sure your child is well cared for while they wait.

Classroom Observation

During the first week of every other month ( Sept. Nov. Jan. Mar. May) parents may observe classes. Pre-school students also have an extra open house day during the last class in Dec. Never disrupt class. During the in-class observation week (or at any time if the door to the classroom is open), please refrain from giving instructions or distracting your child in any way. Please feel free to stay during for your student's class during these dedicated observation weeks if you are able to, but do not feel obligated. Large classes may be dismissed a few minutes early to help keep transitions between classes flowing smoothly.

We welcome parents to stay and observe your child's first one or two classes to ensure you and your child are comfortable and that the class is a good fit.

All students are expected to attend their regularly scheduled classes. Inconsistent attendance holds back progress for the whole class and may result in reassessment of class placement. Each class offers a step forward in the educational process. A missed class could leave a child one step behind the other students. It is important for children to feel completely confident with the choreography and the year-end performance. Missing class could result in frustration for the students and their teachers and classmates.

Make Up Classes

Students who miss a class due to illness, weather, or other circumstances are always welcome to do a make up class in another age and level appropriate class within a month of their absence. Please inform the teacher or office of your make up plans. If you are going to miss a class due to illness or another reason, you are not required to let the office or your teacher know, but if you would like to shoot us a quick email or call it is helpful for us to know.
