Charena Branscum is a recent graduate from University of Idaho with a Bachelor of Science in Dance. With her work at the University of Idaho, she found interest in dance as an academic artform, and approaches her work as scientific and intellectual as well as creative and emotive. At the University of Idaho she studied modern, ballet, jazz, improvisation, composition and choreography, tap, and pedagogy. She has experience working with integrated movement practices such as Bartenieff Fundamentals and concepts from Laban’s work, which stimulated her desire to advocate safe dancing practices.  She had the opportunity of sharing her knowledge and passion for intellectual dancing during her time teaching at Dantz Dynamix Studio in Lewiston, Idaho, where she taught both intermediate and advanced levels of jazz, lyrical, and hip-hop for three years. Branscum also has experience teaching and performing in musical theater where she was highly involved in choreographing, directing, and performing in summer theater productions.

She began training in ballet and jazz at age 4 and continued her love of performance through her college career and has performed in eight mainstage shows through dance theater and University of Idaho’s Dancers Drummers Dreamers. She has had the honor of performing at the American College Dance Festival’s Northwest Conference in 2013, 2014, and the Mid-Central conference in 2015.  In addition to performance experience, Branscum choreographed several pieces for University of Idaho productions. For Dancers Drummers Dreamers, a collaborative production with Lionel Hampton School of Music percussion and composition students and University of Idaho Dance students, she choreographed Resonance, a 9 dance ensemble that was invited to tour Washington, Idaho, and Oregon with the Dancers Drummers Dreamers  tour.

Charena feels truly blessed to have been led here to this beautiful studio and to be able to share her joy of dance with you all!
